I have been building my own collection of stock images to use on my blog, but there are those occasions when what I have just won't do. I recently found freedigitalphotos.net. They offer FREE stock photos. They only ask that you link their attribution to the post along with the photo. They also offer a paid version with no attribution requirement.

I'm new to blogging, and learning lot's. The popular instagram app is a photo source that I am into right now. If you have an iphone, you can take photos, edit them, and upload them to your computer in just a few short moments. For an amateur photographer, it makes things fun and easy!

What about when natural light isn't so great

Have any of you invested in a lighting package, how does that work for you.  What would you suggest to a DSLR newbie?

i find that natural light always produces the best pictures. Also, a nice lens never hurts. I have a macro lens that takes exceptional pictures of food. Knowing how to work the manual settings is essential as well! White balance, f-stop, aperture, etc. Even if you don't know exactly what the mean, learn what they do to your pictures! I also learned a lot by looking at the composition of other food blogger's pictures and eventually developed my own style!

Having a good camera and lots of natural light helps us with good pictures. Though we are still learning the ins and outs of our camera!

I find that good lighting is everything, and natural lighting is the best. Go through the manual that your camera comes with to learn how to use your camera well, look at pictures that professional photographers took to learn which camera settings they used (I like this site) and invest in a tripod.

Additionally, using simple photo editors can help a lot; I like Photoscape (free download) and Picnik (online editor). Good, free Photoshop-like programs you can use are GIMP (free download) or Sumo Paint (online editor).
